We all know how bad most videogames based on movies are. Past their mindless cash-cow gameplay and stories, there usually isn’t much left over to warrant a purchase, except maybe the easy Achievements. Fortunately however, this trailer gives us hope of a movie game that isn’t exclusively the domain of Achievement whores.

The videogame will be set on the planet of Pandora, the same planet the movie of the same name is set on. So no, it’s not set on the Borderlands planet of Pandora (Although that would be a hilarious clash of cultures). The planet is covered in lush rainforests with a cool technology vibe going on every now and then, so there is a lot of scope for a good looking graphics engine to weave its magic.

Looking at the trailer, we could possibly have a playable movie game on our hands... one that is actually a good piece of entertainment in its own right. Such a great conversion would be unheard of since the days of the Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay on the original Xbox.

As the director of the movie, James Cameron put it, "For the movie 'Avatar' we are creating a world rich in character, detail, conflict and cultural depth. It has the raw material for a game that the more demanding gamers of today will want to get their hands on - one that is rich in visuals and ideas, and challenging in play."

So we have a good basis for a game here, but converting it into a good videogame is better said than done. In the mean time, check out the trailer.
