Given the inclusion of The Fate of Atlantis with the new Indy game for the Wii, and the upcoming remake of The Secret of Monkey Island, you would be forgiven for thinking Lucasarts is jumping on the remake bandwagon and giving all their classic adventure games a jumpstart. There is only one catch to this presumption becoming a reality, the upcoming title The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition has to sell well, really well.
"If this[The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition] sells, there's no one at this company who doesn't want to do these games," says LucasArts Community Manager Brooks Brown. "It's a matter of showing that there's interest and this market is alive and get people as excited as possible about Monkey Island Special Edition to show that these things can make it."
With such a rich catalogue of classic adventure titles such as Grim Fandango, Sam & Max Hit the Road, The Eidolon, Day of the Tentacle and Full Throttle, the possibility of playing their favorite games in HD and reworked audio has fans going weak at the knees.
"LucasArts is really proud to be bringing it[The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition] back after a 10 year hiatus," says Brooks. "It's been 20 years since the first game, we're really excited to be coming back. As you can imagine, the reimagining is essentially the original game remastered with all new hand-drawn HD graphics, and also it's no longer MIDI tracks, we've remastered those with brand new instruments recorded in our studio."
So, fans, when Monkey Island is released for Xbox Live later this year, make sure to buy a copy, or two..just grab as many as you can.
By George, it's Monkey magic
